The Cosmetology Act

The Cosmetology Act, 2012, c. 39 outlines Nova Scotia's cosmetology laws, standards, procedures, and principles that must be followed by all parties to which the legislation applies.

The By-Laws

The By-Laws are the secondary laws that govern the internal affairs of the Association and its membership.

The Association

The Cosmetology Association is the licensing and regulatory authority responsible for the regulation and supervision of all Cosmetologists, salons and spas, industry business owners, colleges offering cosmetology programs, and students pursuing education in cosmetology in Nova Scotia.

The Nova Scotia Cosmetology Act and its By-Laws are pieces of legislation by which the Association is guided. These legal documents outline the criteria required to become a member of the Association. Members are industry professionals such as Hairdressers, Estheticians, Nail Technicians, Makeup Artists, and Lash Technicians.

The Association is the backbone of the Nova Scotia cosmetology industry. The Association exists to advocate cosmetology best practices for the safety of the public and industry professionals. This is accomplished by promoting licensing compliance, as well as the highest sanitation, disinfection, and sterilization standards.

The Board

Spearheading the long-term goals and needs for the future of the Association is the Executive Board of Directors. The Board is a group of nine elected Cosmetologists voted in by the membership during the annual Executive Board Election. All-level Cosmetologists are eligible to run in the election; however, candidates must hold a current Nova Scotia cosmetology licence, and demonstrate strict confidentiality and objectivity.

2023-2024 Board of Directors:
