Who can apply for a Temporary Licence (Visitor)?

A person who resides outside of Nova Scotia who wishes to practice cosmetology in Nova Scotia for a short duration (1 year or less) may apply for a Temporary Licence (Visitor).

For example: a cosmetologist from Ontario wishes to teach a class in Nova Scotia for a duration of one week may apply for a visitor licence.

How to apply?

An individual looking to obtain a Temporary Licence (Visitor) is required to complete Schedule D as found in the Cosmetology Association's By-Laws, outlining his/her qualifications to engage in the practice of cosmetology and pay the appropriate fee set out in the By-Laws at Schedule B.  Applicants are required to attach a copy of their current licence or certification when submitting an application.  Upon receipt of completed application and payment of required fee, an individual may be issued a Temporary Licence (Visitor) by the Executive Director and valid for a specified period of time in accordance with the criteria prescribed by the By-Laws.

Fees
The applicant will be charged:
  • A one-time admin fee in accordance with Schedule B of the Association's By-laws (upon submission)
  • Visitor Licence Fee in accordance with Schedule B of the Association's By-laws (upon approval)
Applications can be submitted by fax (902) 468-7147, by email to info@nscosmetology.ca, or in person at the Association's Office in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  Once applications are received, they are passed along to the Executive Director for review.

Once your Temporary Licence (Visitor) becomes expired, you will be required to submit a new application to the Cosmetology Association in order to continue engaging in the practice of cosmetology in the Province of Nova Scotia.

Important: The Executive Director may impose conditions or restrictions on a temporary licence if such conditions or restrictions are necessary in the interest of the public.

Please allow 4 - 6 weeks for processing.
