Licence Qualification Requirements

Specific Master Cosmetologist Instructor 

A Specific licence (Nail Technician, Eyelash Enhancements, Make-Up Artist or Body hair Removal) who has been engaged the practice of  (Nail Technician, Eyelash Enhancements, Make-Up Artist or Body hair Removal) cosmetology for three (3) years or more in a registered cosmetology establishment who has successfully fulfilled such other requirements as may be determined by the Association by policy, and pays the fees required in the By-Laws shall be issued a Specific Master Cosmetologist Instructor (Nail Technician, Eyelash Enhancements, Make-Up Artist or Body Hair Removal) licence. 

Master Cosmetologist Instructor (Hairdressing)

A Master Cosmetologist (Hairdressing) who has been engaged in cosmetology for five (5) years or more in a registered cosmetology establishment who has successfully fulfilled such other requirements as may be determined by the Association by policy, and pays the fees required in these By-Laws shall be issued a Master Cosmetologist Instructor (Hairdressing) licence.

 
Master Cosmetologist Instructor (Esthetics)

A Master Cosmetologist (Esthetics) who has been engaged in cosmetology for five (5) years or more in a registered cosmetology establishment who has successfully fulfilled such other requirements as may be determined by the Association by policy, and pays the fees required in these By-Laws shall be issued a Master Cosmetologist Instructor (Esthetics) licence.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

ADULT EDUCATION TRAINING PROGRAMS

Private Career Colleges & Other Instructors

Requirements noted herein apply to ALL LICENSED INSTRUCTORS.
However, the Department of Advanced Education requires all instructors teaching in a private career college to obtain and provide proof of adult training certification (with a minimum requirement of 90 total hours) from a recognized program in Nova Scotia. Advanced Education Private Career Colleges  

The Department of Advanced Education has confirmed that it will accept adult training certification from Milady. Please click on the link below for more information regarding the Milady RISE adult training program. Individuals that possess an Instructor licence must complete the Milady RISE program within 2 years of receipt of an instructor licence (based on issuance date), and meet any other requirements as determined by the Cosmetology Association to maintain Instructor designation.

IMPORTANT: Milady offers a discount to Association members. To receive the discount you must register via Tina Lo, NP Group, at tina@npgroup.ca (between 9-5pm EST). DISCOUNT: The Canadian course fee is $947.95 less $50 with CANS membership.  

Milady RISE Educator Program

REMINDER: Individuals that possess a current and valid Instructor licence are required to obtain one (1) professional development credit per year to maintain Master Instructor designation. See list provided below and additional approved programs found under Esthetics and Hairdressing at https://nscosmetology.ca/membership-benefits/professional-development.

 ADVANCED EDUCATION CLASSES
Any individual that possesses a valid cosmetology Instructor licence is required to register any course offered to members with the Cosmetology Association prior to the commencement date of instruction. Licensed Instructors must be working in a registered school of cosmetology or providing Cosmetology Association approved advanced education in a registered cosmetology establishment.
